Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we warmly welcome the global membrane community to participate in the 8th IWA Regional Membrane Technology Conference (IWA-RMTC 2026), to be held in the vibrant city of Shanghai. For nearly two decades, the IWA Regional Membrane Technology Conference series has served as a cornerstone for knowledge exchange and innovation within the international membrane community. Since its inception in Moscow (2008), this biennial event has traveled across the globe, from Istanbul (2010), to Buenos Aires (2012), Ho Chi Minh City (2014), Kunming (2016), Vadodara (2018), and most recently Palermo (2024). Each edition has strengthened our shared mission and fostered a rich legacy of international collaboration.

Building upon this distinguished tradition, it is my great honor to invite you to join us in Shanghai from August 26–29, 2026. The conference will bring together leading researchers, engineers, and practitioners from around the world to share the latest advances and innovations in membrane science and technology for water and wastewater treatment, reuse, and sustainable development. It will provide a premier platform for scientific exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and collaboration, while offering valuable opportunities to reconnect with colleagues and expand professional networks.

The conference program will highlight cutting-edge themes, including the fundamentals of membrane processes, novel membrane materials, advanced water and wastewater treatment, sustainable membrane technologies, and AI-enabled membrane systems. Shanghai, as a global hub of innovation and industry, provides an ideal setting for these discussions, showcasing remarkable progress in smart water management and industrial water reuse. Beyond its scientific and technological dynamism, Shanghai is a captivating metropolis where rich cultural heritage and a futuristic skyline coexist, offering a welcoming atmosphere for cultural exploration and international friendship.
